Here are 4 consecutive prompts to better understand your clients.

And when I say clients, in this case I mean the group of people that is or will be using your services.

These 4 prompts will take you from corporate objectives to their challenges, to pain points they experience, and possible solutions.

Interesting and useful, if you’re looking to sell your services into your clients’ needs. Or, if you’re wondering what to write about on LinkedIn.

Alright, back to the prompts.

Head over to your favorite GenAI tool (like ChatGTP) and ask:

  • What are the top 10 corporate objectives that [people using my service] aim to contribute to?

One group of people using my services are ‘marketing & business development professionals in the professional services industry’. So, that’s the phrase I would insert into this prompt.

The GenAI tool will return a list of overarching goals. Now, the people using your services are not necessarily responsible for these goals. However, these corporate objectives probably cause them a challenge or two. And that’s the next prompt:

  • What are the top 3 challenges that [people using my service] face for each of these 10 objectives? Please put the results in a table.

You’ll get a table with 30 challenges, a top 3 for each of the top 10 objectives.

Now, let’s make it a bit more tangible. Because sometimes people don’t fully understand the challenges they face. They just experience the pain.

  • For each challenge, what would be the visible and tangible pain points for [people using my service]? Add these to the table.

After the 30+ pain points (at least 1 for each challenge) are added, you could go one step further and ask:

  • For each challenge, what could be a solution? Add these to the table.

The final result is a table with 10 corporate objectives, 30 challenges for the people using your services, 30+ pain points, and a number of solutions.

I like the table format, because it allows you to copy the results into Excel. Where you can do with the data whatever you like.

In short…

Use these 4 consecutive prompts to go from corporate objectives to challenges, pain points and possible solutions:

  1. What are the top 10 corporate objectives that [people using my service] aim to contribute to?
  2. What are the top 3 challenges that [people using my service] face for each of these 10 objectives? Please put the results in a table.
  3. For each challenge, what would be the visible and tangible pain points for [people using my service]? Add these to the table.
  4. For each challenge, what could be a solution? Add these to the table.

Hope this helps!
