As a subject matter expert, your agenda is filled with actual work. You know: the work you do for clients. Resolving their challenges as good and as fast as you can. You don’t have time to go out there and market your services. Right!?
The only thing is: you’ll have to.
Because, how else are you going to get actual work tomorrow? Or, the day after tomorrow? For this, you’ll need constant visibility in the market. Sounds like a daunting task? Sure, but I’m confident it can be done! Even if you have little time on your hands.
To achieve constant visibility, you’ll need to rethink and repurpose the things you’re already working on:
- That project you’re working on is a success case (in the making). Record it now. Preferably in a format everyone can understand:
This is the (type of) client. This is their challenge. This is how we solved it. - The in-depth topical knowledge you have is an opinion piece. Actually, multiple pieces. Every feature of your service is a solution to a challenge. Every challenge is worth an article:
As a [type of client], you’re working towards [goals]. Along the way, you’ll face [challenge]. You can overcome this challenge by [solution].
- The trends you track are updates. You’re probably keeping track of trends and developments in the market. To keep yourself informed. Well, why not also inform your clients? Turn trends into updates:
This is a change (coming). This is what it means for your business. This is what it means for your job.
Do more with less. Recycle: rethink and repurpose.
Hope this helps!
